The Academy instructor gives a challenge: “Build a weapon from whatever’s in this room.”

Alien cadets dive in eagerly, shaping claws of plasma, sculpting blades from liquid crystal, weaving organic stingers from their biotech kits. The room hums with lethal invention.

Then it’s the human’s turn. He walks forward empty-handed. A few aliens snicker—humans are “soft species,” more suited to carrying tools than making war.

The human kneels, cracks a chair leg clean off, and sharpens the splintered edge against the floor. No sparks, no glow, no exotic material—just wood and friction. He straightens up, hefts it like it belongs in his hand.

The class laughs again, but it dies when he hurls it. The crude spear pierces the reinforced target dummy with a deep, splinter-cracking thud. The metal frame groans as the improvised weapon sticks fast.

Silence. The instructor frowns, then types something into his datapad.
“Note: Humans don’t need technology. Anything can become a weapon.”

The aliens exchange uneasy looks. For them, weapons are sacred tools of war, forged with ceremony. For the human, it was just a broken chair.

And the dented target dummy stays mounted in the classroom for the rest of the semester—its jagged wound a reminder that nothing in human hands is ever harmless.
